The&nbsp;presence&nbsp;or&nbsp;quick&nbsp;development&nbsp;of&nbsp;industrial&nbsp;parks,&nbsp;availability&nbsp;of&nbsp;skilled&nbsp;labor, and&nbsp;both&nbsp;state&nbsp;and EU&nbsp;incentives&nbsp;have&nbsp;made&nbsp;these&nbsp;areas&nbsp;attractive&nbsp;investment&nbsp;destinations.&nbsp;<\/p><p>When&nbsp;measured&nbsp;by&nbsp;value,&nbsp;<strong>Hajd\u00fa-Bihar&nbsp;County<\/strong>&nbsp;tops&nbsp;the&nbsp;list&nbsp;with&nbsp;\u20ac11.4&nbsp;billion,&nbsp;thanks&nbsp;to&nbsp;major&nbsp;projects&nbsp;from&nbsp;BMW, CATL, and EVE&nbsp;Power.&nbsp;<strong>Csongr\u00e1d-Csan\u00e1d&nbsp;County<\/strong>&nbsp;ranks&nbsp;second&nbsp;due&nbsp;to&nbsp;BYD\u2019s&nbsp;new&nbsp;manufacturing&nbsp;plant&nbsp;in Szeged,&nbsp;worth&nbsp;over \u20ac4.66&nbsp;billion.&nbsp;<strong>Kom\u00e1rom-Esztergom&nbsp;County<\/strong>&nbsp;is&nbsp;third&nbsp;with&nbsp;\u20ac3.07&nbsp;billion&nbsp;from&nbsp;six&nbsp;projects.&nbsp;<\/p><p>While&nbsp;Debrecen, Pest&nbsp;County, and Tatab\u00e1nya&nbsp;were&nbsp;historically&nbsp;the&nbsp;most&nbsp;attractive&nbsp;targets,&nbsp;<strong>Szeged<\/strong>&nbsp;is&nbsp;undergoing&nbsp;rapid&nbsp;industrial&nbsp;transformation&nbsp;due&nbsp;to&nbsp;BYD\u2019s&nbsp;investment,&nbsp;potentially&nbsp;creating&nbsp;a&nbsp;new&nbsp;economic&nbsp;hub&nbsp;in&nbsp;southern&nbsp;Hungary.&nbsp;<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where\u00a0Is\u00a0Investor&#8217;s\u00a0Interest Low?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2><p>At&nbsp;the&nbsp;opposite&nbsp;end,&nbsp;<strong>Gy\u0151r-Moson-Sopron, Heves, and Tolna&nbsp;counties<\/strong>&nbsp;show limited investment&nbsp;activity. Long-term&nbsp;labor&nbsp;shortages&nbsp;in Gy\u0151r-Moson-Sopron&nbsp;deter&nbsp;new&nbsp;investments,&nbsp;as&nbsp;existing&nbsp;companies&nbsp;compete&nbsp;fiercely&nbsp;for&nbsp;workforce.&nbsp;Though&nbsp;Heves and Tolna&nbsp;offer&nbsp;strong&nbsp;logistics,&nbsp;earlier&nbsp;foreign&nbsp;investments&nbsp;established&nbsp;significant&nbsp;capacity&nbsp;before&nbsp;2020,&nbsp;making&nbsp;them&nbsp;less&nbsp;appealing&nbsp;now.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Some&nbsp;activity&nbsp;has&nbsp;emerged&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Baranya&nbsp;County<\/strong>\u2014such&nbsp;as&nbsp;projects&nbsp;by&nbsp;Seiren&nbsp;and&nbsp;Hanon&nbsp;Systems in P\u00e9cs\u2014but&nbsp;these&nbsp;remain&nbsp;small&nbsp;in&nbsp;scale. Baranya&nbsp;thus&nbsp;continues&nbsp;to&nbsp;hold&nbsp;untapped&nbsp;potential.&nbsp;<\/p><p><strong>B\u00e9k\u00e9s&nbsp;County<\/strong>&nbsp;has&nbsp;also&nbsp;lagged&nbsp;due&nbsp;to&nbsp;poor&nbsp;accessibility.&nbsp;However,&nbsp;the&nbsp;full&nbsp;completion&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;M44&nbsp;expressway&nbsp;between&nbsp;B\u00e9k\u00e9scsaba and Kecskem\u00e9t&nbsp;now&nbsp;offers&nbsp;direct&nbsp;motorway&nbsp;access&nbsp;to&nbsp;Budapest,&nbsp;potentially&nbsp;revitalizing&nbsp;the&nbsp;region.&nbsp;<\/p><p><strong>Dominant\u00a0Industries\u00a0in\u00a0Greenfield\u00a0Investments in Hungary<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><p>Most&nbsp;greenfield&nbsp;investments&nbsp;in Hungary&nbsp;target&nbsp;the&nbsp;<strong>battery&nbsp;sector<\/strong>&nbsp;(21&nbsp;projects, \u20ac13+&nbsp;billion) and&nbsp;<strong>automotive&nbsp;sector<\/strong>&nbsp;(20&nbsp;projects, \u20ac6+&nbsp;billion).&nbsp;These&nbsp;two&nbsp;alone&nbsp;account&nbsp;for&nbsp;over 90% of&nbsp;total&nbsp;investment&nbsp;value.&nbsp;<\/p><p>In&nbsp;the&nbsp;<strong>food&nbsp;industry<\/strong>,&nbsp;four&nbsp;companies&nbsp;have&nbsp;launched&nbsp;projects&nbsp;worth&nbsp;\u20ac270&nbsp;million,&nbsp;including&nbsp;Hungarian&nbsp;firms&nbsp;like Hungerit Zrt. and&nbsp;Biotech&nbsp;USA,&nbsp;along&nbsp;with&nbsp;CJ Foods (South Korea) and&nbsp;Glencore&nbsp;Agriculture&nbsp;(Switzerland).&nbsp;<\/p><p><strong>Largest&nbsp;Greenfield&nbsp;Projects&nbsp;Announced<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>CATL<\/strong>&nbsp;(Battery&nbsp;manufacturing, Debrecen) \u2013 \u20ac7.34&nbsp;billion&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>BYD<\/strong>&nbsp;(Vehicle&nbsp;manufacturing, Szeged) \u2013 \u20ac4.5&nbsp;billion&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>BMW<\/strong>&nbsp;(EV&nbsp;production&nbsp;and&nbsp;battery&nbsp;assembly, Debrecen) \u2013 \u20ac2&nbsp;billion&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Huayou&nbsp;Cobalt<\/strong>&nbsp;(Cathode&nbsp;production, \u00c1cs) \u2013 \u20ac1.3&nbsp;billion&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>EVE&nbsp;Power<\/strong>&nbsp;(Battery&nbsp;manufacturing, Debrecen) \u2013 \u20ac1&nbsp;billion&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Investment&nbsp;Trends&nbsp;Over Time<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p><p>Between&nbsp;2020 and 2022, Hungary&nbsp;averaged&nbsp;15&nbsp;greenfield&nbsp;project&nbsp;announcements&nbsp;annually.&nbsp;However,&nbsp;this&nbsp;trend shifted in 2023,&nbsp;with&nbsp;fewer&nbsp;projects&nbsp;announced.&nbsp;Despite&nbsp;maintaining&nbsp;high&nbsp;investment&nbsp;value&nbsp;in 2022 (\u20ac11B) and 2023 (\u20ac7B),&nbsp;only&nbsp;7&nbsp;greenfield&nbsp;investments&nbsp;were&nbsp;reported&nbsp;in 2024,&nbsp;totaling&nbsp;just&nbsp;\u20ac300&nbsp;million.&nbsp;<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u00a0Does\u00a0It\u00a0All\u00a0Mean?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2><p>Data show&nbsp;that&nbsp;by&nbsp;the&nbsp;end of 2023, Hungary had&nbsp;secured&nbsp;many&nbsp;capital-intensive&nbsp;projects&nbsp;with&nbsp;long-term&nbsp;impact&nbsp;on&nbsp;its&nbsp;manufacturing&nbsp;structure.
