Renewable Energy Grant: Ushering in a New Era of Local Energy Production and Storage
The installed capacity of renewable electricity generation in Hungary is growing rapidly. By the end of October 2024, the total capacity exceeded <strong8,200 MW. At the current pace, the 12 GW solar power target set in the National Energy and Climate Plan (NEKT) for 2030 may be reached within the next few years.
The goal of the newly proposed renewable energy grant is to provide state aid for companies to establish energy storage facilitiesand to develop closely related renewable energy production capacities. Through these developments, businesses will be able to partially meet their own electricity needs independently, reduce the load on the grid, and lower their expenses in the long run. The program may also contribute to reducing Hungary’s dependence on imported energy, thereby supporting the growth of the economy’s competitiveness.
Who Can Apply?
According to the draft, all micro, small, medium-sized, and large enterprises with a registered seat in Hungary and at least one completed full business year (365 days) are eligible to apply for the grant. This call may be particularly relevant for companies aiming to achieve energy independence, upgrade their existing systems, or develop new renewable energy production capacities.
The aim of the program is not only to support large-scale energy sector players but also to assist smaller enterprises. Half of the available HUF 50 billion budget (HUF 25 billion) is specifically allocated to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This grant scheme is therefore accessible to a wide range of applicants and offers a significant opportunity to enhance competitiveness in line with the principles of sustainable development.
💰 Amount and Conditions of the Cash Grant
Applicants may receive state aid between:
• HUF 10 million (minimum)
• HUF 1 billion (maximum) per project owner
